The board of Valencia College Foundation operates as a direct support organization to Valencia College and is incorporated under Section 501(c)3 of the US Tax Code. This gives it exemption from income taxes and makes it eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. The foundation is chartered by the state of Florida. The board's responsibilities include the following four areas:
The Board responds to an expressed community need and decides the mission and scope of the Company in meeting that need. The Board plans for the future and is responsible for the policies that carry the Company into that future.
Overseeing foundation operations
The board is responsible for hiring the foundation president and for evaluating his or her work on an annual basis. The board works with and through foundation staff to ensure that policies are carried out in a financially, ethically and legally sound manner.
Representing the college and foundation to the community
By serving as the foundation's ambassadors to the community, board members build enthusiasm for college and foundation programs, encourage contributions and recruit new board members, advisers and supporters.
Giving to support college and foundation activities
Board members adhere to the "give and get" rule of non-profit leadership. We aspire that 100 percent of board members agree to "give" by making the foundation a personally significant contribution each year. Board members "get" by participating in foundation fund-raising efforts with corporations, foundations and individuals, and by raising monies through their individual contacts.
"Planned giving" is for people of all ages and economic statuses, and it doesn't have to be difficult. Join us by making a lasting legacy to change lives, transform the face of our community and help shape the future for Valencia's students.
The Valencia College Foundation offers a number of privately funded scholarships that are donated by organizations and individuals interested in supporting Valencia’s students.
